Spatial Justice Mural

In 2023, this mural was designed and painted by a team of Coyote Central young artists. With the leadership of teaching artist Marisol Ortega and assistance of teaching artist Aaron Pozos, they researched the issues of food insecurity and food access as they relate to the people who live in the neighborhoods of Lake City and Bitter Lake.

From April to June 2024, Future Arts and Coyote Central worked with a new team of students to activate the mural with Augmented Reality. Students learned about public art and creative software to develop storyboards, workflows, and QR codes to augment the mural through mobile with teaching artist Andrea Silverman and the assistance of teaching artist Mai Clear. A vinyl re-creation of the mural was installed at the Bitter Lake Community center along with the physical mural installed at the Lake City-Bitter Lake Farmers Market. The public will be able to scan a QR code on sections of the mural to see an animated/augmented version through their phone screen. The AR filters are available on Coyote Central's Instagram under the Public Art Section and were created using Blender, Procreate, and SparkAR.

Storyboards

At the begining, the students chose which parts of the mural they wanted to augment and separated into groups. As they were coming up with concepts, each group sketched out the sequences  on storyboards
